I'm really very glad to have join this short term renunciation retreat. It's has been a great and fulfilling experience.

I don't have much concentration when doing my practice in Singapore. Reciting mantra was always in a rush and with much disturbing thoughts.

Buddha Mandala Monastery (BMM) really provides a very peaceful and conducive environment for my practice. I was able to concentrate more on my practice and there was not much disturbing thoughts. I was able to let go of my wandering mind.

I lead a very routine and healthy lifestyle during this short term renunciation retreat, waking up early in the morning and sleeping early at night. I normally sleep very late at night and have irregular meals in Singapore, which I know was very bad for my health. So I was very happy to be able to have a routine life and able to rest early.

Thanks to Venerables's teachings, I now have a deeper understanding of the 8 precepts and the Dharma.

My mind was more at peace and calmer during these two weeks. Time was well spent and I feel much joy. I must admit that I have greatly benefitted from this retreat.

Last year, when the announcement of the Short-Term Renunciation was broadcasted, I took opportunity to register with no hesitation. I was completely elated and looking forward on this first time participation. My view of this event was fruitful and successful which I did not has the slightest regret and worth sacrificing the set aside time to be there. Though, many of my surrounding friends have somehow a misconception of the word "renunciation".

Those two weeks was so impactful that words could only describe like " Through the Looking

Glass of Oneself ". It is not just a wish to abandon our family, friends, homes, job and so forth rather it is a mind that function to cease our attachments to worldly pleasures; and that seek spiritual path to liberation from our contaminated rebirth. I could fully feel and understand the venerable's constant emphasis of taking the opportunity to Letting Go before our death. By participating, I gained to realise that the worldly pleasures attachments are clinging and craves, they are deceptive and cannot give real satisfaction in reality; they can only cause us suffering. Our venerables make us understand that every single life we experienced the sufferings of sickness, ageing, death, being separated from those we love and being unable to fulfill our wishes. I was like in Awakening to the problems with oneself. It enabled me to reflect myself when we were told to abide the rule of mindfulness of our body, speech and mind for the entire 14 days which we often neglected in our daily life. Without all these, we lead to experience disappointment, discontent, sadness, depression, angst, conflict with others, and internal agitation, etc..

Even though this renunciation is a short-term basis, I could also come to illuminate my minds, eliminating all attachments, confusion and ignorance completely. I could also receive powerful blessings into our mental continuance by listening the dharma with our mind and receive the inspiration that came from hearing these powerful and holy words of Buddhist scripture presented by our compassionate and high wisdom venerables. It is just like the gateway through which we enter the wholesome spiritual path.

I also learned the importance of 3 refuges and its observance of the 5 precepts are of vital importance as a Lay Buddhist. I have gained the understanding of the fundamental modes of training which has to put into practice in our daily life; in order to preserving one's true nature. I found that the precepts is such wholesome that they are practical principles. It is a definite guides to me and others to help avoiding some of the confusion empirical observation and social convention may entail.

The Visualization of the 3 Jewels was indeed amazing and thoroughly satisfied. It was so beneficial to actually develop the intellectual, rational side and the creative imagination I experienced. It helps me to overcome the negative aspects of oneself; like the disturbing emotions and attitudes, especially when we are very much under the control of our endless thoughts. Our venerables whom I respected most gave us a thorough insight of the power of visualization. Their teachings was so impeccable and precious that enable us to focus and concentrate with our mental consciousness and not with our sense consciousness. This brought us into much deeper significance of working with our imagination, we need to understand how those words make things appear.

When the entire event ceased; I teared as I wish I could continue practicing with such purity and wholesome heavenly place without returning to filthy world.
